Examples Using Auto Range Override!

Because the user configurations overridden by the Auto Range Override toolbar extensions affect how direct links are added to fusker collecitons, we will walk through several examples which are very similar to those used in the Examples of Processing Direct Images.

We will again use images found on the site RexWallpapers.com. This time we will use their Aston Martin Cars. However, the concepts discussed here also have the same effect on videos and pages added using the URL Capture Bar.

Configuration
Image Surfer Pro user configuration and toolbar activating Auto Range Override
Description
Before we can utilize Auto Range Override, we must activate it. This is done by selecting the toolbar extension under the Toolbars submenu from the Tools & Settings button from Image Surfer Pro toolbar Tools & Settings button menu.

Notice that when it is activated the initial value is the same as the {Size of Range} user configuration. Any time the user configuration is accessed, the Auto Range Override value will be reset to the value of the {Size of Range} configuration.

You may also use the {Show Auto Range Override at start up} to have the input be active by default.

With Auto Range Override activated we need to:
  • First determine the proper value to place in the Auto Range Override
  • Then obtain a direct image reference to be added to the fusker collection

Determining the correct Auto Range Override value:
In the Aston Martin wallpaper pages at Rex Wallpapers we see that each thumbnail has a title which seems to indicate the order of the images. Interestingly, on the first page of wallpaper thumbnails the first image is listed as "Aston martin 36" and the last image on the last page of wall papers is listed as "Aston martin 1". This gives us a strong indication there are 36 images... which would be a good starting point for our Auto Range Override value.

Getting the direct image reference is also relatively simple. We will try to get the first image in the sequence by clicking on the thumbnail for "Aston martin 1" and then using the ISP Form button from the Image Surfer Pro toolbar button on the Image Surfer Pro toolbar to extract the wallpaper from the webpage - clicking on the wallpaper image will directly display the wallpaper in the IE display window

We are now ready to see how Auto Ranging Override works.

Example Turning Auto Ranging On

Configuration
Image Surfer Pro configuration user config shows auto ranging turned off but overridden by ARO
Description
In the User Configuration {Auto range when adding to the collection} is turned off and the {Size of Range} is set to 17. However, we have activated Auto Range Override and changed the value to 36 based on our investigation of the Aston Martin wallpaper thumbnail pages.

To use Auto Range Override all we have to do is click the Process Page button on the Image Surfer Pro toolbar button on the Image Surfer Pro toolbar.

Resulting Segment
Fusker Collection segment referencing files Aston_martin_1.jpg through Aston_martin_36.jpg
The resulting segment is a numerically fusked segment referencing image files aston_martin_1.jpg through aston_martin_36.jpg. By the zoomed IE window we see that all 36 wallpapers are displayed on the single page. Our user configuration set the default display of an image sequence to Expanded and limited the number of images in an Expanded view to 50 (which was greater than the 36 in this sequence).
Configuration
Image Surfer Pro tree menu with Nudge End->Up highlighted
Description
To assure we have all the images available we can use the Nudge optoin from the fusker tree menu. By nudging the end UP we can see if the file http://www.rexwallpapers.com/images/wallpapers/cars/aston-martin/aston_martin_37.jpg exists...
Resulting Page
Browser screen capture after using the Nudge End->UP command
Resulting Segment
Fusker Collection segment referencing files Aston_martin_1.jpg through Aston_martin_37.jpg
The resulting segment now references image files aston_martin_1.jpg through aston_martin_37.jpg. The browser display window displays a generated page which references the single aston_martin_37.jpg image - which does not exist and is displayed as a missing file reference.

Example Turning Auto Ranging Off

Configuration
Image Surfer Pro configuration user config shows auto ranging turned off but overridden by ARO
Description
This time we will take the opposite approach and turn {Auto range when adding to the collection} on in the user configuration and leave the {Size of Range} set to 17. With Auto Range Override activated we will delete the value to effectively turn off auto ranging.

We will also open a new fusker collection (so our results are not confused with the previous example) and return to the display of the direct image file for the 1st Aston Martin wallpaper.

Once we are reset to this point, we click the Process Page button on the Image Surfer Pro toolbar button on the Image Surfer Pro toolbar.

The resulting segment is NOT numerically fusked and references only the single file aston_martin_1.jpg. We see in the 25% zoom view of the resulting display only one wallpaper is shown and the Image Surfer Pro status bar reports a single pictorial with a single image.
